Blood & Fries: A Wickedly Good Halloween Cocktail
Updated: Oct 22

Blood-red cocktails, creepy eyeballs, and just enough Halloween mischief to make happy hour interesting.
Halloween isn't just for kids.
Some of us are perfectly happy trading the trick-or-treat bag for a cocktail glass, putting on something fabulous, and enjoying a little grown-up Halloween fun.
And if you're going to have a spooky cocktail, you might as well make it interesting.
Meet The Blood & Fries.
A wickedly red combination of cranberry, lime, and vodka with just enough sweetness to make it dangerously easy to enjoy.
Add a few creepy garnishes, and you've got yourself a Halloween cocktail that looks like something a glamorous vampire might order at happy hour.
Preferably with a side of French fries.
Because priorities.
What's in the Blood & Fries?
This cocktail combines tart cranberry juice, fresh lime, and a touch of sweetness.
Vodka keeps the flavor relatively neutral, while rum can add a little more character.
The finishing splash of sparkling water gives it a refreshing fizz.
And the garnishes?
That's where the Halloween fun begins.
THE BLOOD & FRIES COCKTAIL RECIPE
Servings: 1 generous cocktail or 2 smaller drinks
Prep time: 5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Ingredients
2 oz vodka (or rum)
1 oz cranberry juice
½ oz freshly squeezed lime juice
½ oz simple syrup, adjusted to taste
Splash of club soda or sparkling water
Ice
Optional additions
½ oz pomegranate juice for deeper color and tartness
Black decorating sugar for the rim
Gummy worms
Lychees stuffed with blueberries for edible eyeballs
Let's Make Something Spooky
1. Prepare your glass.
For a dramatic Halloween presentation, moisten the rim with lime juice and dip it into black decorating sugar.
2. Mix the cocktail.
Add vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, simple syrup, and optional pomegranate juice to a shaker filled with ice.
Shake for approximately 10–15 seconds.
3. Pour.
Strain into a glass filled with fresh ice.
4. Add the bubbles.
Top with a splash of club soda or sparkling water.
5. Make it creepy.
Garnish with a gummy worm or a lychee stuffed with a blueberry.
Now you've got a drink that looks like it belongs at a vampire's cocktail party.
The Eyeball Trick
Want to make your guests do a double take?
Take a peeled, pitted lychee and tuck a blueberry into the opening.
The pale fruit surrounding the dark blueberry creates a surprisingly convincing eyeball effect.
Float one in the drink or secure it on a cocktail pick.
It's creepy.
It's edible.
And it's considerably more entertaining than a plain lime wedge.
Just make sure your guests know the garnish is food.
Three Ways to Make It Your Own
The Vampire's Kiss
Replace the vodka with dark rum for a richer flavor.
The Blood Orange Twist
Replace part of the cranberry juice with blood orange juice for a different citrus profile.
The Little Monster Mocktail
Skip the alcohol and combine cranberry juice, lime juice, a little simple syrup, and sparkling water.
Add the same creepy garnishes.
Because nobody should have to miss out on the eyeballs.
Why Blood & Fries?
This cocktail was inspired by the wonderfully ridiculous spirit of Sex'n'Fries, where we talk about real life, relationships, aging, and all the unexpected crap that comes with being human.
And sometimes, we just want to have a little fun.
No serious life lessons.
No inspirational speeches.
Just a good drink, a few laughs, and perhaps some questionable Halloween decorations.
Personally, I think a vampire-themed happy hour sounds considerably more entertaining than another evening spent folding laundry.
And yes, I'd absolutely serve this cocktail with French fries.
Sweet, salty, spooky.
